Cycling

Although you are not allowed to cycle along the tow path of the River Medway, there are plenty other great places to cycle around the river.

Tonbridge Castle to Penshurst Place

Regional Cycle Route 12 from Tonbridge Castle to Penshurst Place is an almost traffic-free five mile ride. The castle provides an impressive backdrop to the start of the ride.

The route then continues through leafy woodland, across Lucifer Bridge into Barden Park and then onto Haysden Country Park. Both parks have man-made lakes with ducks and mute swans, which provide a relaxing diversion.

Toilets and play areas are in these parks. There's a steep incline at the Leigh Flood Barrier. At the top you can enjoy a view of the surrounding countryside before the route heads out over the rolling hills to Penshurst Place.

Other bike routes

Yalding and Allington to Tovil are also popular areas for cyclists.
