Family fun at the Museum of Kent Life

Jane and her family tell us about the great day out they had at the Museum of Kent Life

What did you do on your trip to the river?

We had a wonderful family day out at the Museum of Kent Life, which kept all the family entertained. We started the day by driving to Sandling and parking in the large area provided. We discovered that our second daughter who was under four could get in free which was a bonus.

We headed to look at the animals first, which included horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, sheep, ducks, geese and chickens. We also discovered that you could have a donkey ride, costing £2.50 per ride so we decided to have a go at that. Afterwards we thought we would have a break and a drink in the tea/coffee room. We made sure we washed our hands after touching all those animals, the museum gives out stickers to those children who have done so.

We went to look at the historical buildings including the Cuxton Chapel, the Oast house and many more, these were very interesting  and we learnt a lot. We then had a tractor ride around the site which was good fun and free. We had brought a picnic lunch and had it in one of the areas provided.

After lunch we indulged in some painting, both face and pot, which went down well with our two little girls. My husband and I decide we needed a cup of tea and we went back to the tea house and had afternoon tea on the tables in the sun, sharing a nice big chocolate cake.

What time of year did you go?

Summertime.

What did you like best about it, did everything go to plan? Especially include anything that was really memorable or quirky?

The easy parking was a bonus to us having two small children and the area was easy accessible with good paths. There was plenty to do and something for a variety of age levels. The Tractor ride was good as we could go as a whole family.

What could have been improved or done differently? Did anything go wrong or was not as you'd expected?

Only the weather could have been slightly sunnier but apart form that it was a great day out - the kids loved it.
